A look into the magical world of Louis Vuitton Exotics

Last week during Art Basel Miami, Louis Vuitton opened an extraordinary space to showcase its exotic bags for a client event. Vlad and I got to see it for ourselves, and let’s just say this was one of those dream moments where you’re not only surrounded by gloriously beautiful bags, but also in a setting that looks like something out of a movie.

The exotic collection was displayed on the fourth floor (which is not normally open) at Louis Vuitton’s Miami Design District store. With cascading plants covering the walls, a grass floor and bags floating on swings against the wall, a Louis Vuitton dream came true with popular styles like Capucines and Petite Malle in a range of exotic finishes splashed throughout.

There was a standout at the event, the exclusive Louis Vuitton Capucines BB in Porosus crocodile skin with more than 5 carats of diamonds. This bag was a sight to behold, with sparkling crocodile Bleu Canard, which is a deep, teal shade of blue, showing off the skin well and highlighting the gold hardware and diamond accents. Both yellow and white gold hardware weighing around 225g adorned the bag, and on top of the LV clasp are approximately 275 diamonds.

The 10 baguette-cut diamonds had a total weight of around 2 carats, while the 265 brilliant-cut diamonds that added the intense brilliance added to the other 3 carats of diamonds. When it comes to diamonds on a bag, most think of Hermès, but after seeing this bag I will never forget it.

On top of that, a craftsman was there to share a demonstration on the making of the Petite Malle crocodile from the Louis Vuitton atelier in Paris. Working as a craftsman since he was 17 years old, clients were able to discuss the making of the Petite Malle (which requires over 100 parts and a very precise hand to assemble and create the bag). Although there were plenty of bags to see, Louis Vuitton offers MADE TO ORDER where you can choose from a range of 25 colors and 6 shapes in crocodile for a custom bag that will be produced for you in France.

The newest shape introduced to the market during the event was the Louis Vuitton Milla, an ultra-luxe and elegant bag with hardware and details inspired by the characteristics of the original Louis Vuitton trunks.

Louis Vuitton always colors well, and when it comes to exotic items, it’s no different. From bright hues that immediately catch your eye to classic black, there were all the colors of the rainbow atop every bag on display. Matte leathers were also used along with tricolor tie dye and metallic finishes. Although the event in Miami is over, many of the pieces are still for sale. To inquire, call 866.VUITTON.
